Football Star Killed In Devastating Car Crash

Offensive lineman Deontavis Cooper is dead as a result of a tragic car accident that took place this weekend. 

Cooper was supposed to join the Tulane Green Wave this week after graduating from Thomas County Central High School in Georgia. 

The University confirmed his passing in a heartbreaking statement on Sunday. 

“We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, coaches, teammates, and all who held him close. May you find comfort and strength during this challenging moment,” they said via a social media post.

The three-star recruit was only 18.

Deontavis Cooper was said to have displayed exemplary work ethic and was admired both on and off the field. 

He was also described as someone with a genuine and kind spirit. 

“It is with a heavy heart that we share the devastating news of Deontavis Cooper’s passing, who tragically lost his life this weekend. He was a 2026 graduate of Thomas County Central High School in Thomasville, Georgia, and was set to join the football program,” Tulane’s full statement read.

“As an incoming member of the Green Wave, Deontavis exemplified dedication, resilience, and a positive outlook. His love for the game and his unwavering work ethic showed in everything he did, and he was on the path to making a significant impact both on the field and within the community.

“Deontavis was admired not only for his athletic ability but also for his kindness and genuine spirit. His bright personality and warm heart touched many, and his absence leaves a profound void in our hearts.

“In honoring Deontavis, let us remember him for his extraordinary spirit, his kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. He remains forever a valued member of the Tulane community.”

According to WCTV, the single-car crash occurred around 11:00 in Leon County on Saturday night.  

Two other 18-year-olds were on board and are in critical condition. 

The 6’4”, 300lb OL was reportedly thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.
