Georgia Makes 'Very Big Impression' on Highly Touted Star Amid Texas Buzz

The Georgia Bulldogs have a long way to go to poach a coveted safety out of Texas. But the Bulldogs may have laid the groundwork to do just that.

On3's Chad Simmons suggested the Texas Longhorns remain the team to beat for four-star safety Chace Calicut. However, Simmons reported the Bulldogs left a "very big impression" with the top 25 Texas recruit.

"Texas is going to be tough to beat. Let's start there," Simmons wrote. "But Georgia made a very big impression on Chace Calicut over the weekend and the Bulldogs have quickly become competition for the Longhorns.

"Texas gets the last visit, so that is something to watch. He will be in Austin on June 20 after visiting Michigan next weekend.

Simmons argued the question with the Bulldogs and Calicut is whether Georgia can continue to build on the big impression it left with the safety.

"Georgia has some momentum in this race, but can they keep it? That will be what we watch in the coming weeks," wrote Simmons.

Calicut is the No. 23 Texas prospect in the 2026 recruiting class according to the 247Sports composite rankings. With only that in mind, it's difficult to see Georgia upsetting the Longhorns for the safety.

But clearly, the Bulldogs are in the race.

Calicut is also the No. 13 safety and 162nd-overall prospect in the 2026 recruiting class.

Based on the 247Sports rankings, the Bulldogs possess the sixth-ranked recruiting class for 2026. But Georgia only has 13 commits in the class, which is fewer than every school ahead of them.

The USC Trojans, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Clemson Tigers, Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions have the top five 2026 recruiting classes (according to 247Sports).
