Yes, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has a post-credits scene. But what happens?

Following the trend of most major cinematic releases, the latest Ghostbusters film features a stinger after you’ve sat through roughly a minute of credits - and it potentially sets up the next movie.

In the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire post-credits scene, we see a truck pull into a gas station. The driver emerges and heads off to pay for his gas. Meanwhile, in the background, his truck starts moving.

We then see a massive Stay Puft Marshmallows logo emblazoned on the side. The shot cuts to the truck interior where we witness dozens of tiny Stay Puft men causing havoc.

They’re brawling on the dashboard, operating the controls, and one is even burning his face with the car lighter. He pulls the red-hot metal from his singed face and looks to the camera, laughing.

It might be a meaningless after-film scene to serve as a palette cleanser, but it also sets up the next Ghostbusters movie nicely. The Stay Puft Marshmallow man is the most recognisable Ghostbusters mascot, Slimer aside, and would serve as a fitting antagonist for Ghostbusters 3.

The tiny, rowdy, squishable beings also provide some of the best comedy moments in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, similar to Despicable Me’s Minions.

The Minions got their own movie, so maybe a spinoff Stay Puft movie is in the works. That’s if Sony sees fit to greenlit a sequel, given the Ghostbusters Frozen Empire first reactions: “overstuffed”, “frustrating” and “a bit of a mess.”
