Parma had asked for €40m for Giovanni Leoni, but will be content with €36m including add-ons, especially if Liverpool throw in a percentage of the resale value, as the clubs are truly close to an agreement.
The first call for the negotiations was made by Sportitalia’s Gianluigi Longari on August 5 and the talks progressed rapidly, to the degree that we are on the verge of a deal now.
None of the Italian clubs came close to the €40m price-tag, allowing Liverpool to slip into the race.
Now it seems as if Parma are prepared to settle for €35-36m including bonuses, which Liverpool could get over the line by including a cut of the future sale fee as well.
Leoni is all set for his immediate flight to Liverpool, as Parma spent all day in direct contact with the Premier League champions and are truly close to finalising all the agreements.
The central defender has only 17 Serie A appearances under his belt, scoring one goal, and will celebrate his 19th birthday in December.
