Retaining Penn State Football cornerbacks coach Terry Smith was head coach Matt Campbell‘s top priority upon his hiring at Penn State this offseason, and perhaps his biggest win this offseason.
Even before the 2026 season begins, the former retention is paying massive dividends on the recruiting trail for Campbell.
Smith leads the way on the recruiting trail, bringing in five of Penn State’s first 10 commits on board in the Campbell era.
On Saturday night, Smith brought in perhaps his best yet, with elite cornerback Kei’Shjuan Telfair committing to the Nittany Lions.
Kei’Shjuan Telfair is a top 100 overall prospect in the 2027 class out of Euclid, Ohio.
The 6-foot, 160-pound cornerback ranks 93rd overall and as the 12th cornerback in the nation in the 2027 class in the 247Sports composite rankings.
Smith and Penn State beat out Clemson and Miami for the services of the elite cornerback. Telfair is scheduled to be back on campus on June 12 for his official visit.
Telfair is the fourth cornerback to commit to Penn State’s 2027 recruiting class.
Semajay Robinson, Zachary Gleason Jr., and Ka’ron Ceaser all came on board in the past three weeks. Smith and Penn State also holds a commitment from in-state cornerback Deonte Flemings Jr. in the 2028 class.
With four cornerbacks on board for the 2027 class, Terry Smith may or may not add to Penn State’s cornerback haul. There could be room for one more cornerback, but Smith has an impressive class of cornerbacks this year and could turn attention to 2028.
