Joe Flacco Has Incredible Link Between Deion and Shedeur Sanders

Joe Flacco took a lighthearted approach while speaking to reporters after Day 2 of the Cleveland Browns’ OTAs, offering playful commentary about working with rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

“Shedeur’s been great,” Flacco said. “He’s a lot of fun to be around in meeting rooms. So far, there’s been at least once where he’s made me crack a smile, and that’s what it’s all about.”

The 40-year-old former Super Bowl MVP even joked about the generational gap between them.

“I probably wasn’t too far away from playing against his dad, and now I’m playing with him,” Flacco said.

Flacco’s NFL career began in 2008, just three years after Deion Sanders played his final NFL season in 2005 and both with the Baltimore Ravens.

Sanders is coming off a solid performance at rookie minicamp earlier this month and is participating in his first series of OTAs. The former Colorado All-American joined a crowded Cleveland quarterback room that included Flacco, Deshaun Watson, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel.

According to Cleveland.com reporter Mary Kay Cabot, Sanders took reps behind Pickett, Flacco, and Gabriel during offensive drills Wednesday. Head coach Kevin Stefanski, however, said not to read into the rotation.

“We’re mixing it up every single day,” Stefanski said via the team’s YouTube channel. “We’re just trying to get guys exposed to different concepts.”

Sanders brings a strong college resume, having thrown for 14,347 yards, 134 touchdowns and just 27 interceptions with a 70.1% completion rate. While his NFL opportunity is just beginning, the Browns appear committed to giving him a fair shot at rising through the depth chart and potentially becoming their long-term answer at quarterback.
