Kim Caldwell is rapidly moving up the coaching ranks, with Tennessee confirming reports suggesting she will take over as the next women’s basketball head coach of the Lady Vols.

Caldwell now earns an opportunity to lead Tennessee back to glory after guiding Marshall to a conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance in her first and only season in Huntington.

The Thundering Herd finished 26-7 in 2023 and reached the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1997. The Tennessee job opened when former Volunteer national champion as a player Kellie Harper was dismissed following their early postseason exit.

Prior to Marshall, the Parkersburg, W.Va. native, then known by her maidan name of Stephens, dominated the Division II level at Glenville State. Caldwell led the Pioneers to four Mountain East Conference Tournament titles, two Final Fours and a Division II national championship.

While Caldwell has won big everywhere she’s been, she will now face a new kind of pressure with an historic program relying on her to bring success to Knoxville.
