Kirk Herbstreit and ESPN's "College GameDay" crew said farewell to a beloved member this Saturday.
ESPN announced in April that Lee Corso will retire from "College GameDay" following a show on Aug. 30. It'll mark the end of a legendary run that featured countless headgear picks and memorable moments.
"Lee Corso has developed a special connection to generations of fans through his entertaining style and iconic headgear picks," ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said. "Lee is one of the most influential and beloved figures in the history of college football and our ESPN team will celebrate his legendary career during his final College GameDay appearance this August."
Corso isn't the only "College GameDay" member that'll be missing from the show this fall. On Saturday afternoon, Gene Wojciechowski announced that he's no longer with ESPN.
"After 27 1/2 yrs, my official last day on the ESPN books. Owe 1,000 thanks, but forever grateful to J Skipper, J Papanek, Steve Wulf, P Stiegman, Lee Fitting, Mike McQuade, D Kraft, Joe W, @KirkHerbstreit , @ReceDavis , Tom Rinaldi, @Jimmyggg44 , @cbfowler +every editor/prod/crew," Wojciechowski wrote on social media.
Herbstreit wasted no time responding to Wojciechowski's announcement. He wanted his "College GameDay" teammate to know that he's got nothing but love for him.
"Love ya brother. Appreciate your commitment to the show and the respect you always showed to the people involved in the show," Herbstreit told Wojciechowski. "As loyal and good of a teammate I’ve ever had! Hope our paths cross again in the future. You’re the man."
Wojciechowski has been with ESPN since 1998. He previously worked for the Chicago Tribune, The Dallas Morning News and the Los Angeles Times.
During his time at ESPN, Wojciechowski covered so many heartfelt stories that made plenty of fans tear up while watching "College GameDay." There's no doubt that his reporting will be missed this season.
