Longhorns fans receive terrible news as the Ted Cruz curse may damage Texas’ chances in College Football Playoffs

Texas football fans have found a true Texan they don’t want supporting the Longhorns — Sen. Ted Cruz. No disrespect intended. It’s just his track record supporting sports teams in awful.

Sports fans all over the state know about the “Cruz curse.” Any team the Republican cares to endorse, via in person or on social media, goes on to lose.

Thus, Longhorns fans would prefer Cruz stay far away from AT&T Stadium on Friday when Texas faces Ohio State in the College Football Semifinals.

“Hey @JDVance —care for a wager on the UT-Ohio State game?,” Cruz posted on X in a message to current Ohio senator and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance. “Loser brings beer & food from his home state & delivers it wearing the winning jersey?”

Noted UT fan Kyle Umlang had a quick response, “I will bring you food if you never speak of Texas football again.”

Vance did respond, though. “Alright which Texas ice cream should I have Ted bring when the Buckeyes win?”

Vance also added, “To be clear, @tedcruz, you’re on!

West Virginia state senator Chris Rose added, “That is a good gentlemen’s bet. I hope

@JDVance agreed to it.”

Nothing against Cruz, and there is no commentary on his political positions. But this much is undisputed: he is bad luck for Texas sports teams.

Those who know all about the Cruz curse were apoplectic. “Ted, I’m being so serious buddy.. please don’t do this,” Sherman Young posted on X. “You have to be aware of the ‘Ted Cruz Curse’ rumors right? You realize what you’re potentially going to do to the Longhorns if you back them right?

“damn that seals Texas’ fate,” Logan Bartlett posted.

Politicians have tried to straddle the fence with Texas before. Gov. Greg Abbott, a noted Longhorn, showed up on the sideline at Kyle Field for the Texas-Texas A&M game wearing all black.

Cruz pulled for the Longhorns last season in the College Football Playoffs. That didn’t go their way as Washington won. Fair or not, Cruz has brought bad luck to the Houston Astros and Houston Rockets.

Maybe Texas fans can get just enough bad weather to keep Cruz at home this time. After all, Bevo will be back on the sideline, providing all the good karma the Horns will need.
