The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have shocked the college football world this season since their loss to Northern Illinois in the second week of the season, winning all of their remaining games including against Penn State in the College Football Playoffs semifinal on January 9.
The Fighting Irish are hoping to win their first national title since 1988, when Lou Holtz coached in South Bend and the Irish beat No. 2 USC and No. 3 West Virginia in back-to-back weeks to secure an undefeated 12-0 season.
Recently, Holtz took to his YouTube channel to share a personal health update along with plans for attending the championship game on Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
"I was in a car accident, hurt my leg quite extensively," Holtz said on Jan. 9 as he correctly predicted the winners of the recent College Football Playoffs semifinals games, including Ohio State's 14-point win over Texas.
"(Ohio State vs. Notre Dame) should be a classic championship game," Holtz added after sharing his prediction that the Buckeyes and Fighting Irish would play each other for the championship.
"So remember, the championship game in Atlanta, and I will be there provided my leg heals well enough, for Ohio State to play Notre Dame, I'll give my prediction at that time," Holtz said, adding that he has "great loyalty" to both schools having coached at Notre Dame as a head coach and at Ohio State as an assistant.
Holtz, who played college football at Kent State University as a linebacker, added that he was raised in Ohio.
"I will speak from my heart and from what I feel in my heart is right and proper and I'm not going to let emotions get in the way (in making his prediction)," Holtz said.
