The Sun Belt Conference is preparing for another shakeup, and Louisiana Tech could be on the way in.

According to multiple reports, league presidents are set to meet on Monday to hold a formal vote on extending an invitation to the Bulldogs.

With Texas State heading west to the Pac-12, the Sun Belt has a spot to fill, and momentum appears to be building around Louisiana Tech’s return. The school was a football-only member of the league in the early ‘00s and would bring natural rivalries and a manageable travel footprint back into the mix.

The bar to entry isn’t small; Louisiana Tech needs 10 of 13 votes to get in, but early indications suggest support is strong enough to push the invite through. The Bulldogs would join in time for the 2026-27 athletic season if the vote passes, replacing Texas State in the league’s long-term structure without disrupting competitive balance.

This would be a significant win for Louisiana Tech, which has long searched for more stability and visibility after years in Conference USA. For the Sun Belt, it’s a chance to add a football-forward program without jumping through major logistical hoops.

While the Big 12 continues to operate on a national scale, moves like this are reminders that realignment isn’t slowing down across the rest of the FBS. Mid-major conferences are still adjusting to the ripple effects from the last two years.

Monday’s vote doesn’t carry the headlines of a power league shift, but it’s the kind of move that signals how leagues are trying to hold their ground in a landscape that still isn’t done moving.
