Today I had the opportunity to ask a group of Bassmaster Classic qualifiers how they would like to be remembered. Some have already competed in several Classics, but for many, this will be their first time. Their responses varied widely.

Jason Christie (10th Classic)

"I don’t care what they say about bass fishing and I don’t care about anything. I want them to say two things, I want them to say...three things--I want them to say he was a good husband, he was a good dad, and he was a good dude."

Takumi Ito (4th Classic)

"So, Rick Clunn has 50 years of fishing tournaments. That’s so incredible. So, my dream is a long, long time that [I’m a] tournament angler."

Cole Sands (1st Classic)

"You know, I just want them to know me more as a person than a fisherman. Just, you know, somebody who's there for them, somebody who, you know, shares love, shares joy with them."

Brandon Card (7th Classic)

"It’s not about my accolades as far as, you know, winning events and, you know, hoisting trophies, I just want to be remembered by just a just a good Christian guy that just used bass fishing as his platform to just, you know, share the gospel."

Stetson Blaylock (5th Classic)

"Someone that had an impact on the sport, whether it be a small impact or a major impact just to be a part of this industry and this sport is pretty special."

Carl Jocumsen (2nd Classic)

"My heart, my mantra is obviously ‘fear my heart’ and just that I did things the right way. And one word, probably resilience."

Jay Przekurat (2nd Classic)

"I would just like people to remember that I'm more of a relaxed fisherman. Don't get too crazy when I catch one. I don’t, you know, fly off the rockers or do anything like that."

Powell Kemp (1st Classic)

"Winning the 2024 Bassmasters Classic."

Matt Messer (1st Classic)

"I want to be the best in the world. Whenever the people talk about bass fishing I want to be the best. That's been the goal of my whole life. And I love chasing this dream. I’m never going to quit chasing."

Bryant Smith (1st Classic)

"Just that I did it the right way. You know, I didn’t, didn’t take a shortcut, you know, tried to, tried to do it, do it the right way."

Kyoya Fujita (1st Classic)

"My dream is [to be] Elite Series Angler of the Year."

Tyler Williams (1st Classic)

"Be fun…a little, like, easy going and having a good time. Like I don't want anybody thinking bad, so hopefully just good stuff."
Kurt: "So, just trying to stay clean enough that it’s not bad? That's a funny answer."

Tim Dube (1st Classic)

"A guy that just liked to catch bass."

Have you ever thought about how you'd like to be remembered? It's never too soon to start and it's never too late to start. Give it some thought and make sure you're showing the world that person, starting today.
