Maryland Basketball: Latest rankings put Terrapins in elite Big Ten territory

The Maryland Terrapins made their first appearance in the AP Top 25 in nearly a year on Monday, coming in at No. 18 in the latest rankings. The jump into the Top 25 comes after an impressive four-game winning streak, including wins over Nebraska, at No. 17 Illinois, at Indiana, and against No. 17 Wisconsin. The Terrapins have now won six of their last seven contests are looking like one of the most dangerous teams in the Big Ten conference.

With the latest AP rankings, Maryland is one of just six teams from the Big Ten to crack the Top 25 - trailing only Michigan State (No. 9) and Purdue (No. 7).

Maryland has five more games before facing a Big Ten opponent ranked within the AP Top 25, when the Terrapins square off against No. 9 Michigan State on Wednesday, Feb 26 at the Xfinity Center. Between now and then, the Terps have the opportunity to continue to rise within the conference and the AP, with winnable games at Ohio State, vs Rutgers, at Nebraska, vs Iowa, and vs USC.

Up next, Maryland hits the road for a matchup with Ohio State in Columbus. The Terrapins are 12-11 all-time against the Buckeyes and have won three of the last five matchups. That game is set for 7:00 pm ET and will be aired on FS1.
