A member of Michael Jordan’s NASCAR racing team has been accused of assaulting an elderly man.
Evanna Daneen Howell, a senior account manager for Jordan’s 23XI Racing, allegedly used a golf cart to assault the 77-year-old man on Saturday and has since been suspended.
“NASCAR has indefinitely suspended a member of Michael Jordan’s race team amid claims she used a golf cart to assault a 77-year-old man at Charlotte Motor Speedway last weekend,” the Daily Mail reports.
The alleged victim, Dennis Manchester, reportedly suffered serious injuries.
NASCAR announced the suspension in its weekly penalty report, citing a “behavioral” incident.
Meanwhile, Cabarrus County police arrested Howell on Saturday and have since charged her with assault.
Court records indicate that Judge Matthew Black determined there was probable cause pointing to the 35-year-old “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did assault Dennis Manchester with golf cart used to assault the victim deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury.”
Howell attended court on Tuesday and is out on a $125,000 bond.
“Ms. Howell and her family extend prayers for a full and speedy recovery to the individual injured,” her attorney, Harold Cogdell Jr. told the Mail in a statement. “It is deeply disappointing that an unfortunate golf cart accident has resulted in a criminal charge. We look forward to our day in court.”
A Charlotte native, Howell has worked for 23XI Racing since 2021, per her LinkedIn profile.
Jordan recently won a major court victory against NASCAR in an antitrust lawsuit. The team has also seen success in recent times, with Tyler Reddick winning the Daytona 500 in February.
The Mail reports having reached out to the team for comment.
