Jordan Brand has several instant classic models that rose to popularity based on a few factors. Being a big fan of the player who it’s made for, an overall pleasing aesthetic, or an original colorway that typically relates back to on-court or on-field memories.

The Jordan 14 might be the first model in sequence that did not fit the colorway factor. Jordan is the best and nostalgia will almost always win the day. Original colorways like “Breds” (black and red) or “Chicago” or even a “University Blue” all harken back to times and places where Jordan was still playing. The Jordan 14 changed that dynamic when they introduced the “Ferrari” colorway.

In 1998, Nike released the Jordan 14 as that year’s mainline Jordan. The primary colorways, Breds, the Black Toe, and the Oxidized Green were the ones to lean on if it’s about original colorways. The Jordan 14 had a lukewarm reception in 1998 when compared to previous Jordans like the 11, 12, and 13s that came just before them. That all changed when Jordan and Hatfield decided to take inspiration from one of Jordan’s favorite things. The Ferrari.

The Jordan 14 includes a few features that were inspired by performance cars. Coming up the toe box are usually black “teeth” that are almost ‘squishy’. They feed into what looks like a high-end performance car’s intake. The heel counter reveals a large “23” that grows wider as you move up towards the Achilles. Around the ankle, they brought back something we hadn’t seen since the Jordan 5. Asymmetrical ankle support. The outer ankle is supported underneath, while the inner ankle is covered with material.

Where the “Ferrari” takes it up a notch is in the details. The “teeth” look like they are made of carbon fiber while the intake feature looks almost like brushed nickel, less ‘shiny’ than chrome. The Jordan logo under the ankle would look almost exactly like the Ferrari logo if you swapped the Jumpman for a Ferrari horse. The red makes up most of the body of the shoe and is very bold. The carbon fiber pops off the black. As well as the 23 that grows as you move up is in the standard Ferrari Yellow.

The Jordan 14 has been “GOATed” but is also not at the top of every Sneakerhead’s wish list. Unless it’s the “Ferrari” 14s. When it comes to Jordan sneakers and Ferrari, there’s only one. The Jordan 14 “Ferrari.”

Good news for consumers, the AJ14 “Ferrari” is reported to be available almost everywhere. This will not be a SNKRS app exclusive, and allocation is expected at Nike, Foot Locker, Finish Line/JD’s, Champs Sports, as well some regional retailers. Online orders will commence at 10 a.m. ET on Saturday, June 14th.
