Recruiting is a wild world, and things can change as quickly as you can think. The rise of NIL and players being paid has only added to the chaos, with some incredibly expensive rosters being assembled.
Coming off last season’s national championship, the Ohio State Buckeyes are once again putting together a tremendous recruiting class in their first year of recruiting post-title.
Ohio State already holds 15 commitments in their top-three ranked class and could be on the verge of adding even more talent.
Following a weekend visit to USC, the Trojans were viewed as the frontrunner for Wafle, according to On3. However, momentum has shifted, and now the Buckeyes are gaining steam across the board as the likely destination for the elite EDGE prospect. Steve Wiltfong of On3 has noted a rapid change in Wafle’s recruitment:
“However, I believe conversations with family and coaches have pushed this back towards staying closer to home. Ohio State looks strong. That’s now where my expert prediction sits on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine ahead of his commitment on Thursday.” — Steve Wiltfong, On3
Wafle, the No. 5 pass rusher in the class, has also received two Crystal Ball predictions from 247Sports to choose Ohio State. The Buckeyes recently secured their first defensive line commitment of the cycle when four-star Khary Wilder announced his pledge earlier this month.
Wafle is Ohio State’s top target at the EDGE position. The 6-foot-5, 245-pound pass rusher is ranked No. 55 nationally by 247Sports. Adding to the drama, his older brother, Owen Wafle, currently plays at Penn State—another program pushing hard for his commitment. Landing Luke would not only be a key addition but also a significant recruiting win over a major rival.
Coming out of the weekend, the outlook for Wafle choosing Ohio State wasn’t strong—but that has quickly changed. Don’t be surprised if a commitment comes very soon.
