The 2026 recruiting class for the Oklahoma Sooners has been on a red hot streak this summer, bringing in six commitments over the last month with plenty more on the way.
One of those who could be part of Oklahoma's class is four-star offensive tackle Deacon Schmitt, a Colorado native. Schmitt is the near-consensus top player from the state of Colorado in the 2026 class.
Schmitt attended Oklahoma's major June 6th recruiting event alongside Oklahoma commit Noah Best and other high-priority recruits. While Schmitt isn't ready to commit, he quickly whittled his recruitment down to a top 3 shortly after his visit with the Sooners.

Oklahoma joined Alabama and Colorado on Schmitt's top three, and he will commit on June 28th.
Right now, based on the latest recruiting intel, the Sooners feel fairly confident in where they stand in Schmitt's recruiting. Based on On3's RPM Machine, the Sooners have pulled ahead into the lead, well ahead of Alabama and Colorado. While it might be a coincidence Schmitt canceled his other official visits after visiting Oklahoma, it feels likely that it isn't.
That isn't perfect intel, as nothing is settled in recruiting until a player announces. However, based on recent comments, it's easy to see why Oklahoma feels confident about where they stand. Schmitt and offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh have built a strong relationship over the course of his recruitment.
Schmitt is an elite athlete on film, with the ability and traits to succeed at both tackle and guard. He plays primarily right tackle now in high school, and that might be where he sticks long-term. Oklahoma's left tackle of the foreseeable future is likely 2025 five-star Michael Fasusi. If the Sooners can land Schmitt, they might have their long-term tackles sorted out for years to come, putting themselves in a terrific position to compete offensively in the SEC.
Schmitt will make his decision on June 28th.
