The Packers traded up in the sixth round of the NFL draft to draft Kicker Trey Smack from Flordia.
This was the last pick for the Packers in the 2026 draft.
To trade up the Packers traded both their 7th round picks to move up.
Trey Smack has a big, strong leg and has shown that he can boot the ball.
Smack has served as the Gators’ primary kicker since 2023.
Throughout his time at Florida he has been very constant in his ability to make kicks.
He’s made 53 of his 64 career field goal attempts (82.8 percent)
Smack also made 14 of 19 from 40-49 yards and 10 of 13 from 50 or longer.
His career long is 56 yards.
Furthermore he has made 100/101 extra points in his career and has only one blocked kick.
Last season he earned third team All-SEC honors.
He also was runner up for the best kicker in the nation, also known as the Lou Garza Award.
Some of Smacks strengths include:
– Consistent ball-striker with good lift and placement.
– Capable as an emergency punter if needed.
– Good size with ability to cover and tackle on kickoffs.
Some of his weaknesses include:
– Missed three field goals in the first game of 2025, including 39- and 40-yard tries.
Trey Smack will join Brandon McManus and Lucas Havrisik as the kickers on the Packers roster.
This means that the hot seat for McManus is heating up.
After an inconsistent year for McManus filled with missed fields goals and extra point the Packers look to bring in competition for him.
Havrisik and Smack will bring more competition for McManus.
Already with the franchise record for the Packers Havrisik will surely have a shot at the job.
But with the Packers trading up to get Smack, it shows the Packers see something in Smack.
Also with New special teams coordinator Cameron Achord in place, he may have a preference in who he wants as a kicker.
It will be an interesting summer and training camp to see who will come out as the kicker at the end.
Furthermore this will definitely a competition to watch for this offseason.
