A team of Penn State basketball alumni has won a game in “the basketball tournament” for the first time ever.
The Happy Valley Hoopers beat the Dubois Dream, 88-77, and will now move on to play at the Peterson Events Center Monday either Stars of Stoors (UConn) and the Herkimer Originals (American Basketball Association minor league team). The second-round game will be at 6.
The Happy Valley Hoopers led 45-40 after the first half, then led 64-58 with a quarter. The Dream kept it close in the last quarter, then a Sam Sessoms three-pointer put a up by 10 late and effectively sealed the deal.
The winner of The Basketball Tournament will get a million dollars.
