The Minnesota Frost announced that they will be protecting Kendall Coyne Schofield, Lee Stecklein, and Taylor Heise ahead of the PWHL expansion draft next week.

The league is adding teams in Seattle and Vancouver for the 2025–26 season. The six current teams are allowed to protect three players each, but all remaining players in the league will be available in an expansion draft on June 9.

Before the traditional expansion draft, Seattle and Vancouver will be granted a five-day exclusive window to sign a maximum of five players. Any unprotected player or free agent is eligible to sign with either team, though there is no minimum. This window runs from June 4 to June 8.

After one of the six inaugural teams has lost two players—either in the signing window or the expansion draft—that team will be allowed to protect one additional player, increasing its protected list to four, according to a release from the league.

Seattle and Vancouver are required to draft at least seven players each, continuing until both teams have 12-player rosters.

Coyne and Heise were Minnesota’s top two scorers last season with 24 and 22 points, respectively, and Stecklein is one of the team’s top defenders.

Sophie Jaques, Michela Cava, and Claire Thompson are among several of Minnesota’s top players left exposed in the expansion process.
