The Wisconsin Badgers are set to host a variety of recruits during the upcoming game against the Maryland Terrapins this weekend.
Wisconsin will have major names in town for both the first home game since traveling down to Tuscaloosa as well as the conference opener. The Big Ten Conference is set to be strong this season with programs such as Penn State, Ohio State, Michigan, and Oregon leading the way. The Badgers will face quite the gauntlet within the Big Ten Conference, and for better or worse there will be plenty of eyes on the team while doing so.
Wisconsin will have plenty of top recruiting options in Maryland this weekend such as four-star 2027 quarterback and top recruiting target Israel Abrams. In addition to Abrams and many of the big names will be some under-the-radar recruits such as wide receiver Dustin Roach, a currently unranked receiver who has been making a name for himself at Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha.
Roach is a 6-foot-3-inch, roughly 180-pound wide receiver and defensive back who currently holds an offer from Eastern Michigan. While Roach has not received crazy attention from collegiate programs early on in the recruiting process, a solid junior season appears to be the key to seeing the process pick-up.
The wide receiver visited Tennessee during the Volunteers 72-17 win over Eastern Tennessee and has been painting close contact with the program. Following his visit this weekend with Wisconsin, Roach will be traveling to Minnesota next weekend to watch the Golden Gophers face Rutgers in a notable clash.
Roach is a relatively new face for Wisconsin as the two sides have only been in contact with each other for a few months. Wisconsin has been working on the 2027 class for quite some time now in hopes of developing close relationships early with many top recruiting options. Roach was recently introduced into the fold and could be a solid option for the staff moving forward.
For the Badgers, Roach is both an athletic and versatile recruiting option who could fit a variety of needs depending on what the staff needs in the future. Currently, Roach is expected to be a defensive back and primarily play safety for the Badgers should he join the program in the future. Given his long frame and excellent height for the position, Wisconsin feels Roach would fit the best within the team as a safety.
However, Roach is also an accomplished receiver and could become a valuable receiving option for a willing program in the future. Wisconsin has not displayed any solid interest in moving Roach to receiver in the future, but the option remains open given his hands, route running ability, and frame as a receiver.
The upcoming visit will serve as a great opportunity for the recruit to gauge a feel for his fit within the defense and program up close. Keeping the best talent in-state is something the Badgers have been focused on, and landing Roach would be a great way to keep the best undiscovered talent home.
