Roku frequently adds new channels to its popular streaming platform, The Roku Channel, available on Roku TVs and streaming players. In July, Roku added 17 free channels, with 19 more arriving in October and November.
On Tuesday, the platform debuted 11 new channels, according to Cord Cutters News. The fresh offerings cover the fields of sports, news, classic television, reality TV and more.
Ironically, Roku also added 11 channels exactly one year ago, so it seems like they're trending toward a yearly December tradition at this point.
Per Luke Bouma of Cord Cutters News, the 11 additions are as follows, in numerical order:
"Among the highlights is a strengthened news offering, which includes a dedicated channel for international updates, providing round-the-clock coverage of world events, politics, and business developments," Bouma said. "Sports fans will appreciate the additions focused on niche athletics, such as tennis coverage with live matches, highlights, and expert analysis, alongside a channel dedicated to extended sports commentary and behind-the-scenes insights.
"Classic television enthusiasts can dive into Western dramas from the mid-20th century, featuring tales of frontier justice and moral dilemmas set in rugged landscapes. Home renovation and DIY lovers get a dose of practical advice through a channel showcasing improvement projects, tool tips, and transformative makeovers."
In the last week alone, YouTube TV and DirecTV have also debuted new channels.
YouTube TV tacked on four local affiliates of The CW Network, as well as all three channels from the public affairs network C-SPAN. DirecTV, meanwhile, added as many as five Peacock Games channels for subscribers.
