Ryan Garcia boxes Rolando Romero on May 2 for the WBA Regular Welterweight Title, as boxing insiders gave their predictions for the fight.
Garcia boxes for the first time since his no-contest against Devin Haney last year. Garcia’s victory was turned into a no-contest after he failed VADA tests for Ostarine, as he received a one-year ban. Garcia has plenty to prove, knowing that a victory puts him in line to rematch Haney, provided the latter beats Jose Ramirez.
Romero recently lost his WBA Junior Welterweight Title against Isaac Cruz, who stopped him. However, Romero bounced back from that loss with a victory against Manuel Jaimes in his last fight. Romero also knows what it is like to box in the big events, having also headlined against Gervonta Davis. Here is how boxing insiders saw the fight playing out.
“I know Rolly is going to come to fight cuz he always does. I still think Ryan is going to win. I think he’s going to catch him and he’ll probably catch Rollies and probably win, but Rollies is down, he’s aggressive, he’s down to fight, he ain’t afraid. So I’m excited for that too. I think Ryan, I think Ryan catches him and wins. I think he probably stops him, but for as long as the fight lasts Rollies is in the fight. You know, he’s always going to be aggressive, coming forward throwing punches,” Mikey Garcia
“I love Ryan, he’s great, he’s good, he’s good, but Rollies is also a good showman. You know he knows how to build up a fight too, so can’t wait for that one,” Robert Garcia
“I think Ryan has a big advantage. He’s a big dude, he’s tall, he got big, he got size on him. I think he just has the advantage of just being the bigger man and not just being a bigger man, but just having the quicker hands and just that speed. That speed is deadly. Speed and power,” Gabe Rosado
“I got Ryan Garcia…I think Ryan needs to be careful with Roy’s punching power cuz Rolly still got power man and definitely could do something to Ryan with those shots,” Teofimo Lopez
