Sonya Deville resolves firearm charge, completes pretrial intervention program

Sonya Deville no longer has a firearm charge to worry about.  The 30-year-old was arrested in Atlantic City earlier this year and charged with one count of unlawful weapon possession. A parking valet at an Atlantic City casino discovered a handgun in her vehicle and contacted the police.  Deville legally purchased the weapon following a home invasion incident she was victim to on August 16, 2020. The gun was registered in Florida but she did not have the proper documentation to be carrying it in the state of New Jersey.  Speaking to the Courier-Post, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office confirmed Deville was entered into a six-month diversion program in May. They noted that entry into the program is "routine in cases with this fact pattern."
