South Africa will face Nicaragua in an international friendly on Friday as Bafana Bafana complete their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The match will be played at Orlando Stadium in Johannesburg and will give Hugo Broos one last chance to test his squad before the tournament begins.

This will be South Africa’s second appearance at a FIFA World Cup. Their first came in 2010 when they hosted the tournament on home soil and became the first African nation to stage the competition.

Bafana Bafana are currently ranked 60th in the FIFA rankings after securing qualification for the 2026 tournament. They have been drawn in Group A alongside Mexico, Czechia, and South Korea for the World Cup.

Nicaragua, meanwhile, are ranked 131st and are still searching for their first World Cup appearance.

South Africa head into the game after mixed recent results in friendlies, but the team will be confident playing at home in front of their supporters. Nicaragua arrive with a young squad under new coach Juan Cruz Real and will use the match as part of their rebuilding process.
