Stephen A. Smith Scores Terribly In 2028 Presidential Poll

Stephen A. Smith's influence and prominence in the sports media space is unmatched, but the ESPN commentator has far loftier goals in mind over the next few years.

Smith has said that he "has no choice" when it comes to considering a run in the 2028 presidential election, telling ABC News that he's constantly contacted by billionaires asking him to help the Democratic party. Skip Bayless advocated for his former co-host, saying that he believes Smith has what it takes to win an election.

Smith has never lacked confidence in himself, but the reality of the situation shows that a much different outcome is likely.

According to a poll from Zeteo, Smith was the clear lowest-polling candidate among likely Democratic voters in the next presidential election. In fact, 49% of those prospective voters answered "I do not know who this is" when asked about Smith directly.

Smith's negative-18 net rating trails names like Jon Stewart and Mark Cuban, who have had far less fanfare and media attention when it comes to potential presidential campaigns.

"The Stephen A. Smith boomlet feels 99.8% media-driven, no actual demand from Dem voters," said Semafor reporter David Weigel.

"There was a version of this in 2017, when there was a lot of media chatter about whether Dems wanted their own celebrity (Oprah?) - no, Dems love government and experience!"

The polling numbers cited for Smith's miniscule impact on Democratic voters seem to reflect Weigel's suggestion. Experienced names like New Jersey senator Cory Booker and former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg led the way in the poll, with former Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz in at third.

Smith's aspirations for political office may be too big for the presidency, but there's certainly a path for him to work his way into politics if he chooses to do so. Several prominent entertainment figures and athletes have been senators and members of Congress.

Experience isn't a prerequisite for the job, but it's clear that voters believe more is required of Smith before they decide to take him seriously as a presidential candidate in 2028.
