Though it's been nine years since Stranger Things Season 1 first hit Netflix, it's been far less time for the kids of Hawkins, Indiana. And now, after a very long wait — it's been over three years since Season 4 hit — the fifth and final season of Stranger Things is actually coming. And ahead of the release on November 26, 2025, Netflix has finally released a legitimate trailer that gives us an idea of what this season will feel like.
The big news here is that in this trailer, we get our first glimpse of Linda Hamilton's new character in Stranger Things Season 5. In 1984's The Terminator, Hamilton changed the game for '80s action stars in her unforgettable role as Sarah Connor. In the new season, Hamilton is playing a character called Dr. Kay, and we see her shooting at a slew of demogorgons.
This season promises to be the biggest battle ever, between the town of Hawkins and the denizens of the Rift. The synopsis for Stranger Things Season 5 reads: "The fall of 1987. Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna."
Vecna is a major baddie in the Stranger Things mythos, first introduced in Season 4. That said, some fan theories suggest that the character has been around, in other guises, since the very beginning.
Stranger Things Season 5 will release episodes in three parts. Here's how it shakes out:
