Tennessee Vols among top schools for an elite 2027 4-star recruit from North Carolina

The Tennessee Vols are among the top schools for an elite 2027 four-star recruit from North Carolina.

2027 four-star linebacker Jalaythan Mayfield told On3 this week that Tennessee is one of seven schools that's currently standing out in his recruitment.

Michigan, Florida, Georgia, Ohio State, Texas A&M, and South Carolina are the other six schools at the top of Mayfield's recruitment.

“They are all great programs with great linebacker coaches. Any of those seven would be a great fit," said Mayfield to On3 of his top seven schools.

Mayfield, 6-foot-1/215 lbs from Lincolnton, NC, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 9 linebacker in the nation and the No. 5 player in the state of North Carolina. He's also rated as the No. 129 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class.

It's still early in Mayfield's recruitment. He told On3 that he doesn't plan to announce his commitment until next summer (after he takes official visits).
