Texas basketball has long been a cornerstone of elite college hoops, boasting 39 NCAA tournament appearances and three trips to the Final Four.

However, the Longhorns stumbled last season under Rodney Terry, finishing with a 19-16 record in the grueling SEC, including an early exit in the First Four against Xavier. Following this underwhelming performance in his second full season, Texas decided to part ways with Terry, ushering in a new chapter for the program.

He was quickly replaced by Xavier head coach Sean Miller, the team that knocked Texas out of the NCAA tournament this year.

The new era of Texas basketball begins now, and it runs through Sean Miller.

Miller, coach of Xavier and formerly Arizona, has an impressive record in just 20 years of coaching, including 13 trips to the NCAA tournament.

The four-time conference coach of the year and ending in the top-10 in six seasons, most recently in 2022, Miller has a strive for excellence. He is hoping to return to the top-10 by leading Texas back to the top of the college basketball rankings.

The 2022-23 season marks the last time Texas was in the top-10, which led them to the Elite Eight where they lost to Miami.

Sean Miller has his work cut out for him as he steps into this pivotal role with the Texas Longhorns. Despite losing Tre Johnson, the team retains six scholarship players with eligibility, alongside a strong incoming freshman recruit, four-star big man John Clark. To reshape the roster, Miller is likely to dive into recruiting and might even bring some talent over from Xavier.

These upcoming months will be crucial for Miller as he begins the transformation and lays the foundation for a new era in Texas Longhorns basketball.
