2018 was another year of intriguing looks when it comes to off-the-field fashion for athletes across all sports in North America. Here's a look at some of the most notable names when it comes to sports and fashion.
Where else could we possibly start when it comes to fashion magnates in the NFL? Whether it's a hit or a miss, Cam Newton's press conference appearances are always a must-see event and it's due to the fact that even casual fans are anxious to see what outfit Cam will come up with next.
This is a photo of Odell Beckham Jr. with with A$AP Rocky. If the rapper-turned-fashion icon is supportive of the Giants WR wearing something with the Road Runner plastered all over it, then who are we to disagree? In all seriousness, Odell Beckham Jr. is one of the more fashion-forward NFL athletes and he's not afraid to take risks.
When it comes to Travis Kelce, you rarely see him wearing something controversial or polarizing. Instead, he just stays sharp all of the time. You don't have to wear something too wacky to turn heads, and Kelce accomplishes that on a regular basis.
Similar to Kelce, Tyrod Taylor dresses very well when he's not in pads and cleats and he doesn't have to push the envelope in a big way. He stays in his lane and keeps things neat without having to go over the top.
Then we have Von Miller. He's now become legendary for his willingness to boldly go where few in the NFL have gone before when it comes to fashion. There aren't too many players who could pull off what Von Miller attempts to pull off, but he does it on a regular basis and he has to be commended for his bravery on that front.
Of all the major sports in North America, the NBA is clearly the most fashion-forward. It's the league where role-players dress like superstars and superstars dress like icons. Brandon Ingram is one example of players who may not lead their team in the box score but are clearly influential when it comes to dressing well.
It's been no secret that Chandler Parsons has been one of the most well-dressed players in the NBA. It's been that way for years and he shows no signs of letting up in that regard.
There will be three Houston Rockets players on this list. Chris Paul is probably the least flashy of the trio of Rockets, but he still does very well for himself when it comes to dressing up. He will put a strange look out there from time to time, but he mostly stays on the sharp end of things when it comes to fashion.
If you think that hoodies are just something that you should wear when it's cold, then clearly you haven't followed D'Angelo Russell. He's managed to turn hoodies into high fashion and anybody who can do that deserves to be on a "best-dressed" list.
It shouldn't be a shock that the Miami Heat legend is on this list. Dwyane Wade may no longer be one of the best players in the league as he reaches the twilight of his career, but he's still at the top of his game when it comes to off-the-court looks.
No list of the best in the NBA when it comes to fashion is complete without James Harden. Of the trio of Houston Rockets on this list, he was the most obvious choice and he is always on top of things when it comes to fashion.
If you're going to make a big move to Los Angeles to become the face of the NBA's glamour franchise, then you have to make sure that your fashion is on point. Therefore, it makes plenty of sense that LeBron James is one of the best-dressed players in the NBA. He almost has to be at that level if he's going to be the face of both the NBA and the Lakers.
Nick Young is currently a free agent, which is a shame since we currently don't get a chance to see what the man is wearing on a nightly basis when it's time for games. his style is eclectic to say the least, but it's provocative and never boring so Swaggy P definitely has that going for him.
The third Houston Rockets player on this list is PJ Tucker and he could very well be the best-dressed player on the team. Tucker is a big-time sneakerhead and his knowledge of fashion isn't just limited to footwear, either. He dresses well from head-to-toe. While Harden and Paul may be the most well-known payers on the Rockets but Tucker is clearly the tastemaker.
If you're talking fashion in not just the NBA but across all sports in general, you'd be remiss if you didn't mention Russell Westbrook. He takes fashion nearly as seriously as he takes basketball and has frequently dipped his toes into the world of fashion design. If you want to talk style, this is the man to talk to.
The man with one of the biggest beards in all of baseball also happens to be one of the better dressers in all of baseball. Archie Bradley won't be on the cover of any magazines anytime soon, but you aren't going to see anybody saying anything bad about what he's wearing. If anything, you'll probably hear nothing but compliments.
The current King of Smiles in baseball also knows how to pull off a solid outfit on a regular basis. Francisco Lindor has routinely turned heads whenever baseball has had a red carpet affair and he's even been seen on Instagram trying to design his own clothes. Don't be shocked if you see him getting serious about fashion design sometime in the future.
Carlos Correa and Bryce Harper are two baseball players who are known for dressing well once they leave the diamond. However, the man who those two go to for fashion advice is none other than Marcus Stroman. If you have stars like that coming to you for advice on what to wear, then you are basically "the man" when it comes to fashion among baseball players and Stroman currently sits on the throne in that regard.
If your relationship resume includes "dated Rihanna" on it, then you probably know how to dress and dress very well, at that. That's the case for Matt Kemp, who has continued to keep his fashion game at an MVP's level, even if his on-field performance has dipped a bit since his glory days during his first stint with the Dodgers.
Speaking of MVPs, the 2018 AL MVP would also be a frontrunner in the vote for baseball's MVP of fashion if such a thing existed. Mookie Betts excels in plenty of areas outside of baseball and the fashion arena is just another example of the high bar that he has set for himself.
To let you know just how serious the Maple Leafs star is taking this whole fashion thing, Auston Matthews has recently appeared in both GQ Magazine and Sharp Magazine. Nary a hockey stick was in sight for either of those appearances. Instead, he was giving some serious looks while modeling some excellent outfits. He appears to be a natural at this, in addition to tearing things up on the ice.
When you can manage to steal the spotlight from the Sedin Twins in a photo just by virtue of what you're wearing, then you're really doing something. That's the case with Brock Boeser, who is garnering a reputation for dressing well as he continues to rise to the ranks of stardom in the NHL.
During the Vegas Golden Knights' improbable run to a Stanley Cup Final appearance, James Neal and Ryan Reaves appeared to have struck up a strong bond as friends. One of their shared interests was clearly fashion, and Neal ended up emerging as one of the better-dressed hockey players in the NHL at the moment.
It only took one look at his outfit for the draft to see that Owen Tippett clearly knew how to dress himself, even as he'd be entering the NHL as a rookie. It's rare to see players get ahead of the game in that regard at an early stage of their career, but Tippett is definitely ahead of the curve in that regard.
It shouldn't be shocking at all to see P.K. Subban on a list of best-dressed athletes. He'll probably be on this list for a long time to come, as he is continuously on top of things when it comes to the latest good looks and he's also starting to carve out a niche of his own with his selection of hats.
