The Heavy Metal event for Destiny 2 is here. It is set to keep players busy for the final week before the Ash and Iron update. The PvP mode was successful on its first release before the Edge of Fate, but this time, there is a problem. Players reported receiving Year One rewards upon completion of a Heavy Metal match.

The Destiny 2 Heavy Metal Event is Mostly Unchanged

The quest steps for the Heavy Metal event are quick and easy to complete. A couple of visits to Lord Shaxx and completing two or three matches of Heavy Metal will complete the quest. What players are predominantly after are the Synanceia, Solar Wave Frame Sword, and the Trachinus Stasis Rapid Fire Frame Shotgun.

Unfortunately, some players were met with disappointment upon completing their Heavy Metal matches. They received Year One weapons and armor, which included blue gear. Players quickly noticed that launching Heavy Metal from the Tower was causing the problem. If you launched the game mode from the Portal node, you received the expected rewards.

Bungie Acknowledged the Issue

In a recent post on X, Bungie acknowledged the issue where old legendary gear and blue gear are dropping from Heavy Metal. No fix is currently on the radar for Bungie outside of getting rid of the tower node. They have noted that Destiny 2 players must launch Heavy Metal from the Portal node to ensure they receive the intended rewards.

The Event Should be Successful

Besides the slight error in the rewards, the rest of the Destiny 2 event should be smooth and successful like its original release. The rewards for completing Heavy Metal matches are greater this time, with players chasing the first Wave Frame sword with Eager Edge and a Stasis Shotgun that they can add to their arsenal. For those wanting to earn these rewards, another reminder to launch the activity from the Portal node itself and not from the tower. Good luck on your Brig and Tank battles, Guardians!
