The Sugar Bowl had to postpone this week's game between Georgia and Notre Dame due to a terrorist attack in New Orleans. That decision clearly impacted the market for secondhand tickets.
Jessica Smetana of the "Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz" revealed earlier this Thursday that a lot of Georgia and Notre Dame fans were at the airport in New Orleans. It's unclear if they left for safety concerns or simply because they couldn't rearrange their schedule. Either way, it's proof that Wednesday's horrifying attack in the French Quarter changed the atmosphere surrounding this College Football Playoff game.
Roughly an hour before kickoff, Brandon Marcello of CBS Sports revealed the get-in price for the Sugar Bowl. Believe it or not, the cheapest ticket on StubHub was just $13. That's incredibly cheap considering it's a CFP playoff game featuring two historic programs.
It'll be interesting to see how many empty seats are in the Caesars Superdome this evening.
Hopefully, those in attendance tonight are able to enjoy the product while feeling safe. Law enforcement in New Orleans already said it's doing everything in its power to ensure the Superdome is secure.
"We are going to have absolutely hundreds of officers and staff lining our streets," New Orleans Police Department Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick said. "We are staffing up at the same level if not more so than we were prepared for Super Bowl."
As for the tragedy that took place on New Year's Day, the FBI is still investigating Shamsud-Din Jabbar and his background. They found an ISIS flag in the vehicle he used to crash into a crowd of people.
"Let me be very clear about this point. This was an act of terrorism. It was premeditated and an evil act," FBI Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia said. "It was obviously a critical incident, and with that, lots of information and tips come pouring in from law enforcement, first responders and the public. ... Another fact I want to be clear on. We do not assess at this point that anyone else is involved in this attack except for Shamsud-Din Jabbar."
