In August, a group led by CEO Natalie Darwitz and President Andrew Heydt announced that it was going to bring a Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame (MNHHOF) to fruition.

On Wednesday, it was unveiled that the massive MNHHOF will be erected in Inver Grove Heights , near Viking Lakes and the Minnesota Vikings' training complex.

The more than 120,000-square-foot facility, situated on a 40-acre lot, will house the 30,000-square-foot Hall of Fame with five exhibit wings and an ice rink. It'll also contain a 20,000-square-foot performance venue, hockey-themed restaurant and taproom, and multiple community spaces.

“Since announcing this legacy project in August, the outpouring of support from players past and present, Minnesota-based companies, and hockey fans statewide has been overwhelming,” Darwitz says.

“We’re truly excited to build our permanent home in Inver Grove Heights, honoring the past and inspiring the future of Minnesota hockey.”

It's a joint project from the nonprofit Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame and the Bloomington-based Consumer Science North. From the outset, it's boasted a board of Minnesota hockey notables backing the project.

That board includes Nick Bjugstad, Neal Broten, J.T. Brown, Matt Cullen, Alex Goligoski, Taylor Heise, Gigi Marvin, Casey Mittelstadt, Lou Nanne, T.J. Oshie, Kelly Pannek, Alex Stalock, Krissy Wendell, and Grace Zumwinkle, among others.

“The city is thrilled that the Minnesota Hockey Hall of Fame has selected Inver Grove Heights as its home, and we look forward to welcoming them to our community,” says Inver Grove Heights Mayor Brenda Dietrich.

"The site is in our Northwest Area, which has long been envisioned for major development, and the Hall of Fame offers the opportunity for new amenities and attractions that will benefit Inver Grove Heights for years to come."

As part of the project, the MNHHOF will have grassroots programming, traveling exhibits, and a statement youth education program.

The groups are aiming to break ground in 2026 and open in late 2028.
