Former walk-on and starting Defensive End BJ Green II announced this morning that he would enter the transfer portal.

Green was a walk-on three years ago and led the team in sacks during his freshman season. He earned a scholarship and has continued to be good at getting to the QB. He finished with a career-high six sacks this year and was nominated for the Burlsworth Award, given to the best player in college football who started his career as a walk-on.

Green joins a growing list of upperclassmen who are transferring. This list includes Drew Pyne, Jordan Clark, Javen Jacobs, and Jalin Conyers. This also comes immediately after ASU just hired a new defensive line coach in Diron Reynolds.

It’s a big loss for ASU as Green II has been someone they could rely on throughout the past two years to stay healthy and lead the D-Line. Green will be an extremely hard worker wherever he decides to go.
