When Alex Golesh made the move from USF to Auburn during the offseason, one of the new head coach’s priorities was to bring quarterback Byrum Brown with him. While his wish became a reality, Brown’s performance since his arrival has raised some concern amongst Auburn fans.
This continued Saturday during Elite 11 drills, where he participated alongside several other current college quarterbacks.
Videos like this won’t inspire confidence, especially when it comes after a spring game performance when Brown completed 7 of 14 passes for 85 yards and two interceptions.
It is important to note that it wasn’t all bad for Brown on Saturday, as he did also flash his skillset.
Brown was a success story at USF. Now, everyone will find out during the 2026 season if this translates to the SEC. But it is impossible to ignore that Brown passed for 3,158 yards and 28 touchdowns while rushing for 1,008 yards and 14 scores last season.
What is already known is that without Brown performing at a high level, the chances of head coach Alex Golesh producing a turnaround season in 2026 diminishes greatly. All eyes will be on Brown.
