
Tributes are pouring in online after a high school football star died "suddenly" at 17 years old this week.
Ryder Barnes, a standout defensive lineman in California, was committed to play in college for the Cal Poly Mustangs. Tragically, he died this weekend.
“On behalf of our entire Cal Poly football family, we are deeply saddened by the passing of Ryder Barnes. Ryder was an exceptional young man with a bright future, and this loss is felt by all of us. Our thoughts, prayers, and heartfelt condolences are with his family, friends, and all who loved him during this incredibly difficult time," Cal Poly head coach Tim Skipper shared.
His high school, Crean Lutheran, released a statement, as well.
"There are no words big enough to capture the loss we feel. Today we honor an exceptional young man. One who showed up with heart, led with strength, and left an impact far beyond the field. Ryder was well known in our community as an amazing teammate and friend. Your light, your energy, and your brotherhood will never be forgotten. You weren't just a teammate, you were family. In loving memory, and forever in our hearts! We will carry your legacy in every rep, every game, every moment," they said.
"So sorry to see this. Our condolences to the family and the Cal-Poly football program" one wrote.
" Sincere prayers for the Barnes Family," one added.
"RIP Ryder ️ Blessed to have the opportunity to cross paths with you. Praying for you and your family ," one shared.
"Will forever live in my heart my brother. Going to spread your smile and love to all. The way you picked up the lonely and the small was inspiring. You are in paradise Ryder and with the creator of all. Will never stop loving you my brother. Rest in love and peace ❤️️," one added.
"It’s all in God’s hands. Miss you buddy, honored to have been apart of your life. See you in the next ," one shared.
