Trust the Process
Admittedly, I’ll be the first to say that I was very shocked that the Dolphins chose Kadyn Proctor, the offensive tackle from Alabama, over Caleb Downs, the Swiss Army safety who many considered one of the top five players in the draft.
The decision to trade down one spot in the draft for two fifth-round picks left me confused.
Yet, thinking about it, there are so many holes to fill on this Dolphins roster that GM Jon-Eric Sullivan really cannot go wrong in this draft process.
Offensive line or defensive back?
Wide receiver or Edge rusher?
This team needs all of them, and with the trade up to the 27th pick for cornerback Chris Johnson from San Diego State, the Dolphins potentially filled another need.
The first two picks were not necessarily a popular haul, but let’s trust the process here with our new General Manager.
The new front-office leadership cannot really screw this draft up, since throwing darts at the board is likely to hit valuable players.
And at positions of need.
Only time will tell if Sullivan made the right move choosing Proctor over Downs, so as weary as we are as Dolphins fans, we need to find patience once again.
The Dolphins have four picks on day two, one in the second round and three in the third.
And remember that superstar running back De’Von Achane was picked in the third round, as have numerous star NFL players.
So, although I was surprised and somewhat disappointed by our first draft choice, given who was on the board at the time, including local favorite Reuben Bain, Jr., an edge rusher from the University of Miami, I am not in any position to decide.
All we can do as fans is trust the process and hope that history does not repeat itself once again.
