What a weekend ahead in College Basketball.
The ACC has some huge games this week, but it does not get any bigger than North Carolina vs Duke. The Tar Heels and the Blue Devils square off for the first time this season and they do so as the top two teams in the ACC standings.
North Carolina was rolling along on a 10-game winning streak and unbeaten in ACC play, but they were stunned by Georgia Tech on the road this week. To avoid dropping out of first place, they will need to beat their rivals this week. If Duke wins this matchup, they would jump into first place.
Virginia is the hottest team in the ACC now that North Carolina has lost and the Cavaliers have won five in a row. They are trying to get back into the ACC Tournament picture and face a Clemson team that is still hoping to make the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers have cooled off since an 11-1 start, but are still in the Tournament picture.
Florida State (6-3) and NC State (6-4) are right behind the top three. The Seminoles should get a win tomorrow vs Louisville, but NC State will have to survive a test against a feisty Georgia Tech team that is capable of beating (and losing) to anyone.
Wake Forest (5-4 ACC record), Syracuse (5-5), and Miami (5-5) are the next three teams in the standings. These three hope to put together a strong February and move up in the ACC standings before the conference tournament.
Virginia Tech, Clemson, Boston College, Pitt, Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, and Louisville make up the rest of the ACC Standings.
