When it comes to recruiting for both this year and the next year, the USC Trojans have been killing it. Their 2026 class is currently viewed as the best in all of college football, and it's only getting better.
They did have a five-star in their 2026 class, one that has been committed since 2024. But he's not in the 2026 class anymore. So, that class may take a bit of a hit. However, it's not because he flipped somewhere else and decided he wanted to go to a different school.
No, this kid just reclassified because he just couldn't wait to get on campus.
RJ Sermons, a top cornerback from Rancho Cucamonga, California, is a major addition to USC’s 2025 recruiting class. Originally a five-star prospect in the 2026 class, ranked No. 1 at his position by On3, he reclassified to enroll early at USC in July 2025. And, that's huge because it shows that he was always truly locked in with the Trojans.
And, this helps him follow in his father's footsteps, which he obviously just could not wait to do. His father, Rodney, played running back for USC in the 1990s, and his brother, Cameron, is a walk-on wide receiver for the 2025 team, tying the family closely to the program.
He chose the Trojans over nearly 30 offers from schools like Alabama, Georgia, and Oregon. At 6'0" and 180 pounds, Sermons is a standout athlete with elite speed and great length to play the position at a high level in the Big Ten.
He has the potential to be a lockdown corner in college, but that doesn't always mean it will happen, as he first has to put in the work. We can see that he's not afraid to do that, as he was determined to reclassify, which isn't the easiest thing to do.
Watching this kid play and follow in the footsteps of his father is going to be something special.
