Warriors Have 'Close to Zero' Chance of Landing Rumored Trade Target: Report

It has been a rough offseason thus far for the Golden State Warriors as they continue to deal with the ongoing situation surrounding restricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga.

While awaiting a decision by Kuminga, Golden State has missed out on multiple free agent targets which has resulted in them not making any additions to their roster outside of their two second-round picks in the 2025 draft.

Of course, the Warriors were expected to be active this summer to upgrade their lineup around their star trio of Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butle r and Draymond Green to chase a championship next season.

Despite their failure to add anyone to their roster in free agency thus far, it has been reported that they do have deals in place with multiple free agents that will likely be finalized after Kuminga makes a decision regarding his future.

Report doesn't bode well for Warriors' landing rumored trade target

Golden State has also been linked to multiple trade targets as well including New Orleans Pelicans forward Trey Murphy III.

While Murphy III would be a solid addition to Golden State’s roster thanks to his three-point shooting and defensive play, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel released a major report on Friday that does not bode well for the Warriors.

According to Siegel, the Warriors have almost no chance of trading for Murphy III this offseason as the Pelicans continue to have an extremely high asking price that includes multiple first-round picks and proven, young talent.

“Right now, I’d say their chances are close to zero,” Siegel wrote about the Warriors’ chances of acquiring Murphy III.

Of course, the Pelicans have reportedly shown interest in Kuminga this offseason and Golden State could elect to include their young forward and draft capital to land Murphy III this summer.

Despite this, Golden State may not want to give up as much in a potential trade for New Orleans’ young forward as the Pelicans are asking for, which makes a trade highly unlikely.

While that may be the case, the Pelicans may lower their asking price for Murphy III at some point before next season’s trade deadline, especially if they find themselves near the bottom of the Western Conference standings like they were last year.

If that ends up being the case, expect the Warriors to show interest in acquiring the 25-year-old emerging star, though multiple other teams will also likely be interested in acquiring him as well.
