United Arab Emirates batter Muhammad Waseem and South Africa all-rounder Chloe Tryon have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for May 2025.
Waseem, 31, secured the honor for a second time, having previously won in April 2024. His performances spanned the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 and a T20I series against Bangladesh on home soil.
In five ODIs, he scored 169 runs while batting in the middle order. During the T20I series in Sharjah, where UAE triumphed 2-1, Waseem opened the innings, registering scores of 54 and 82, and was named Player of the Series.
Expressing his gratitude, Waseem said, “I am delighted to win the ICC Player of the Month award for the second time. I want to thank the ICC and all the fans who voted for me… this award is as much for [my teammates and support staff] as it is for me.”
He hailed the Bangladesh series win as “historic,” citing it as a testament to the UAE's cricket progress. “What delighted me the most was the performance of the debutants and the youngsters… Our aim is now to continue our progress and not only compete but beat bigger teams,” he added.
Waseem edged out fellow nominees Brendon McMullen (Scotland) and Milind Kumar (USA).
Meanwhile, Tryon was rewarded for her stellar form during South Africa’s tour of Sri Lanka. She amassed 176 runs at a strike rate of 131.34 across three ODIs and claimed six wickets, including a match-winning five-for-34 against Sri Lanka, highlighted by a hat-trick.
“I probably didn’t expect this award, but I see it as a great achievement,” Tryon remarked. “I’ve been trying to find consistency… Hopefully, I can build on those performances and help the team through the big year ahead.”
Tryon beat West Indies captain Hayley Matthews and India’s Jemimah Rodrigues.
