West Virginia University has entered into a unique partnership, naming Grant County Mulch as the “Official Mulch Supplier of West Virginia Athletics.”
The agreement links one of the nation’s top mulch producers with the Mountaineers’ brand, adding an unconventional but notable sponsorship to the school’s corporate partner portfolio.
Grant County Mulch, based in Petersburg, West Virginia, is the largest bulk mulch supplier in the country, distributing more than three million cubic yards annually. The company serves both residential and commercial customers nationwide, but this marks a new move into the college athletics sponsorship space.
While the exact terms of the deal were not disclosed, the partnership will likely feature Grant County Mulch branding at WVU athletic venues and across media platforms. The arrangement also connects the state’s flagship university with a homegrown business that has become a national leader in its industry.
For Grant County Mulch, the sponsorship offers a unique opportunity to align with the Mountaineers’ passionate fan base. As the official mulch supplier, the brand will gain visibility across multiple sports and events throughout the year.
Though mulch and athletics may not seem like an obvious pairing, the deal reflects the expanding creativity in sponsorships as athletic departments seek new revenue streams. For WVU, it’s another example of leveraging local partnerships to build both brand strength and financial support.
Whether it’s on the field, in the stands, or in this case, in the garden, Mountaineer fans will now see one more West Virginia brand represented alongside their teams.
