
While the 2026 World Cup is the first to have three host nations, the 2030 World Cup is also set to make history in that regard.
The 2030 World Cup will technically have up to six host nations across three continents. On December 11, 2024, FIFA announced that the 2030 World Cup will be held in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.
The majority of the matches will be played across the three countries, with two from Europe (Spain and Portugal) and one from Africa (Morocco).
The 2030 World Cup marks the 100th anniversary of the first-ever World Cup that was hosted in Uruguay in 1930. Due to this special remark, FIFA also announced three South American countries to host the first few games of the 2030 World Cup.
FIFA announced that Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay will be host nations for the first games of the 2030 World Cup. These three South American nations were chosen to be a key part of the FIFA World Cup 2030 Centenary Celebration.
The 2030 World Cup will have 48 teams participating with a total of 104 games, making it the second World Cup to follow this 48-team tournament.
Spain, Morocco, and Portugal will co-host the majority of the 2030 World Cup, but FIFA confirmed that there will be three centenary celebration matches to take place in South America, across Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
There is only one 2030 World Cup game in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Argentina's home game would be at the Estadio Monumental, and Uruguay's home game would be at the Estadio Centenario. Paraguay's home game would be at the Estadio Osvaldo DomÃnguez Dibb.
The rest of the 101 World Cup games will be played across Spain, Portugal, and Morocco. There will be six stadiums in six cities in Morocco, three stadiums in two cities in Portugal, and 11 stadiums in nine cities in Spain, for a total of 20 stadiums in 17 cities.
All six host nations, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, will play in the 2030 World Cup and are the first teams to qualify for the next World Cup.
This will be the first World Cup to be played across three continents.

On the same day as the 2030 World Cup announcement, FIFA confirmed that Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup.
The 2034 World Cup will also have 48 teams and will likely be played in the winter, similar to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The tournament is likely to move to a winter schedule due to the intense summer temperatures in the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia is expected to have 15 stadiums planned across five cities for the 2034 World Cup.
