Skanes committed to Wisconsin just a few days ago after previously being committed to Miami (OH) for several months. Cornerbacks coach Paul Haynes extended an offer to Skanes in October and quickly set up an official visit. Skanes also took an official visit with Michigan State, but UW was able to win out and flip his commitment.
The North Carolina native tallied 25 offers in his recruitment, garnering significant Division 2 attention and picking up Division 1 offers from Wisconsin, Michigan State, NC State, Duke, and James Madison.
After losing multiple defensive backs to the transfer portal, bringing in Skanes to add some insurance at the position is big. The Providence Day School standout is part of a strong cornerback class alongside Jai'mier Scott and Jahmare Washington. On film, Skanes is a well-rounded cornerback with excellent ball skills and physicality at the point of contact. He will provide some important depth with the ability to be a playmaker in Wisconsin's secondary.
