The Wisconsin football staff will be hosting a top 2026 safety recruit during another big recruiting weekend for the program.
Chase Geter, a three-star 2026 safety, is a talented native of Virginia who has made massive jumps in skill over the past year. The defensive back has been a heavily recruited individual but seemingly is down to Penn State, Virginia, Duke, and Wisconsin. The latter two have been the two most active teams as of late, with Wisconsin narrowly sneaking into official visit season with Geter.
Geter currently holds 28 total scholarship offer with Michigan extending the safety only weeks ago. The defensive back is a versatile player and the utilization of his versatility will be a factor in his recruiting decisions moving forward.
On the positive end for the Wisconsin football staff, Geter has been recruited as a hybrid player who could offer Wisconsin depth across the secondary. The athlete is traditionally a safety, but has incredible speed and hips which has allowed for an easy transformation over to cornerback.
If Geter were to play safety in college, hit power and play recognition are going to be the best qualities that the athlete can offer. Standing in at 6-feet-1-inch, and roughly 190-pounds, Geter has a great frame for the collegiate level and beyond in the secondary.
While often times visits may go under the radar, the Wisconsin football staff has plenty on the line as Geter hits campus for the first time this weekend.
Coaches Jack Cooper and Paul Haynes have been pivotal in seeing Wisconsin reach this point with Geter. The safety received a scholarship offer in January and already has seen the Badgers pick up plenty of momentum. With a productive visit during his first time on campus, Wisconsin could pull forward and push Geter into making a commitment decision.
Currently, Wisconsin is battling the likes of Duke and Penn State for a commitment from Geter, with Virginia likely on the outskirts. The safety has visited the Nittany Lions three times and twice in 2025 already with a close relationship to the staff being developed.
Penn State has worked to land Geter, but also is the program with arguably the least to lose. The Nittany Lions already have two four-star defensive back commitments in the 2026 class, meanwhile the Wisconsin football staff has placed a priority on landing Geter in response.
On the other hand, Duke has been one of the more aggressive teams in the recruitment of Geter with one visit this year already under the belt. The Blue Devils have just five commitments in the 2026 class thus far and do not want to let a potential commitment from Geter to slip away.
From a play time perspective, however, Geter might have to wait in Durham as the 2025 Blue Devils class had five defensive backs.
