Even though most of the work for their 2025 class is already done, the WVU football staff contacted a top in-state prospect. George Washington High School product Hunter Giacomo announced an offer from the Mountaineers on Monday afternoon.

Listed at 6-foot, 190 pounds, the Charleston, W.Va. native is listed as an athlete due to his experience at multiple positions, but is also regarded as one of the best linebacker in the state. He also has experiencing at wide receiver and safety in high school.

“After a great conversation with coach (Jeff) Koonz, I am blessed to receive an opportunity to play at WVU,” said Giacomo on X (formerly Twitter).

As Giacomo searches for a college home, WVU could provide him with a chance to play in a major conference. Besides West Virginia, he has offers from schools like Appalachian State, Saint Francis (PA) and North Alabama. Giacomo has his Appalachian State offer pinned to his profile on X (formerly Twitter).

Throughout the past year, he has attended football camps and visited programs like  Cincinnati, Gardner-Webb, Maryland, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pitt, Toledo and Virginia Tech.

Prior to this offer to Giacomo, WVU has been mostly focusing on 2026 recruits in July. Most recently, West Virginia sent showed interest in Cooper McCutchan, a tight end and basketball star in Ohio. He then told WV Sports Now that he’s planning to visit Morgantown soon.

McCutchan plays both football and basketball as a 2026 prospect at Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Even though he has numerous videos of his basketball highlightsposted on social media, the expectation is that he’s pursing football in college.

He’s rated as a three-star by Rivals, On3 Sports and 247 Sports. Each outlet ranks McCutchan among their top 30 Ohio prospects and top 25 tight ends nationally.
