Legendary caddie Billy Foster will take it easy in 2025, stepping back some from looping for Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick.
Having caddied for the who’s who of professional golfers, including Seve Ballesteros, Darren Clarke, Lee Westwood, Tiger Woods, and Fitzpatrick, the one thing in common with all his former bosses is they were winners and except for Westwood, all past major winners, but never with Foster on the bag until 2022 with Fitzpatrick at The Country Club in Brookline, outside of Boston.
“It means the world to Billy. I can't tell you how much it means to Billy. It's unbelievable. I know it's something he's wanted for a long, long, long time. To do it today is incredible,” Fitzpatrick said on the Sunday with the U.S. Open trophy sitting next to him. “We ended up working together. I was kind of in between caddies. He just split up with Lee and just happened to work out. It's so funny. He kept telling me the first time on the job, I'll just do 25 weeks and maybe get a fill-in for the others. I think he's had about two weeks off in four years, so yeah.
In a text message, Foster, admitted that 27 tournaments a year and Transatlantic travel is too much.
In a story in the Mirror, Foster confirmed that he will share duties on Fitzpatrick’s bag when he starts in Hawaii next year.
"I'm going to do a job share next year," Foster confirmed. "I'm 59 next week, so I am going to do a job share. With 26 and 27 events every year, transatlantic, it is catching up with me, so I will share with Dan Parratt, who has caddied for about 15 years.”
Foster confirmed that he would do between 13 or 14 events with Fitzpatrick and possibly an event or two on the DP World Tour with a different player.
“I am going to go to Hawaii in a couple of weeks; Dan will do California,” Foster confirmed. "I will do Florida, the Masters, and Hilton Head, and Dan will do US PGA and Memorial. I will come and do the US Open, The Open, and the Scottish [Open], and Dan will come in and do the FedEx Cup playoffs." Foster has featured alongside Fitzpatrick at the last three Ryder Cups, but the most recent in Italy proved to be a special one.”
