Major Winner Gets Honest About 'Disappointing' Season Ahead Of PGA Championship

With the PGA Championship less than a week away, at least one former major champion is hoping to rediscover his elite form at Quail Hollow.

In 2022, Matt Fitzpatrick won his first major championship at the U.S. Open. He actually joined Jack Nicklaus as the second golfer to win the U.S Open and U.S. Open Amateur title at the same venue, The Country Club in Massachusetts.

Unfortunately for Fitzpatrick, he hasn't been able to recapture the magic that made him a major winner in 2022. In just this season alone, he has missed the cut for The Players Championship and finished in 40th place at the Masters.

Fitzpatrick is well aware of his struggles on the course. It's something he refuses to ignore as he tries to earn a spot on Team Europe for the Ryder Cup.

Speaking to MailOnline this week, Fitzpatrick admit that he's disappointed by his play this season. However, he's hoping he'll turn a corner at Quail Hollow and contend at the PGA Championship.

"My game is not really where I want it at the minute this year. I had high expectations going into the season of where I wanted to go and to not have achieved it is always disappointing," Fitzpatrick said, via Daily Mail. "But hopefully I’ve turned a corner over the last couple of weeks. Hopefully now I can kick on and give myself a good chance for the rest of the year."

Fitzpatrick showed some promise at the RBC Heritage, shooting 6-over-par for the tournament.

Maybe, just maybe, Fitzpatrick will make some noise at the PGA Championship next week.
