Major winning caddie joins Collin Morikawa for The Open as new partnership forms

Collin Morikawa is looking to get his 2025 season back on track and has turned to a familiar face on the bag for help.

Morikawa hasn’t won since 2023 ZOZO Championship and, despite a close call at this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational, he’s struggled to seal another victory.

Mainstays of Morikawa’s game remain strong, and the American is firmly in the Ryder Cup picture. But he’s been open about his determination to snap the winless stretch before heading to Spain in September.

First came the split from longtime caddie JJ Jakovac, followed by an unsuccessful stint with Joe Greiner. Each change was meant to spark better play, but the results didn’t follow.

Now, his choice was to count on an experienced caddie, who has worked alongside big figures of the sport.

Few caddies in today’s game have the track record of Billy Foster, whose career includes stints with legends like Seve Ballesteros, Lee Westwood, and Sergio Garcia.

In recent months, Foster has been without a full-time bag since parting ways with Matt Fitzpatrick, but his return was always a question of when, not if.

This won’t be just a one-tournament collaboration. The pair will continue together when the season arrives at Royal Portrush the following week.

Although Foster, now in his 60s, had planned to reduce his schedule, this fresh challenge has clearly appealed to him.

Foster knows how to get the job done and does have something that no other caddie working does.

This includes two major wins, where both Fitzpatrick and Seve Ballesteros won the US Open in 2022 and the Open Championship in 1988, respectively.

Both men know the course well, and it’s over to Morikawa and Foster to see if they can work their magic on a week that could define the American’s season.
