Phil Mickelson has spent more than three decades traveling the country as a professional golfer. After playing for the Arizona State Sun Devils, he turned pro in 1992. He ranks eighth all-time in PGA Tour wins and has 11 more victories on the European Tour.

Mickelson owns six major championships, but he hasn’t won one since 2021. The U.S. Open remains the only major he has yet to capture to complete the career Grand Slam.

In June 2022, LIV Golf announced Mickelson would be joining its tour. Since then, he has been a regular in LIV events.

This weekend, he’s in Chicago for the event at Bolingbrook Golf Club. Before his round, Mickelson shared his perfect Chicago to-do list on X.

"When in Chicago, some 'must-dos' are deep dish pizza, go to a Cubs game, the Natural History Museum, and more," Mickelson posted. "For me, it’s Portillo’s. Got there twice this week, so I’m expecting a low final round."

What is Portillo's?

Portillo’s is a popular fast-casual chain best known in the Chicago area. It specializes in Chicago-style favorites like hot dogs, Polish sausage and Italian beef sandwiches. Founded in 1963 under the name The Dog House, it has grown to 46 locations in the Chicago area. The brand has also expanded to cities like Phoenix, Dallas, Indianapolis and Milwaukee.

Mickelson's Performance in Chicago

Heading into Sunday, Mickelson sat at 3-under par. He opened with a 3-under round Friday, then shot even par Saturday. Dean Burmester led after two rounds at 9-under, with a 6-under second round. Jon Rahm and Josele Ballester started the final day at 7-under.

Phil Mickelson's 2025 Results

This hasn’t been a standout season for Mickelson. He missed the cut in three of four majors, with his best showing a tie for 56th at The Open Championship. His last time contending at a major came in 2023, when he tied for second at the Masters.

In LIV Golf events, Mickelson has three top-10 finishes in 2025 but no wins. He finished third in Hong Kong in March, sixth in Miami in April and tied for fourth in Virginia in June.

When Will Phil Mickelson Play Next?

After Chicago, LIV Golf heads to Indianapolis for an Aug. 15-17 event at The Club at Chatham Hills. The weekend will also see Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at home against the Washington Mystics on Friday night, making for another busy sports weekend in downtown Indianapolis.

The following week, LIV Golf moves to The Cardinals at Saint John’s in Plymouth, Michigan.
